ad captandum vulgus

"Don't call it new theatre Charlie.  Call it real theatre, call it our theatre."

- Barton Fink

I've been thinking about my writing a lot lately.

And I know what I think about it.

I know that I want it to be for real people.  Like a Kevin Smith movie in a book.

I'm sick of looking at books and wanting them to appeal to me.  They hardly ever take the plunge that I'm looking for.  So few books are really willing to deal with that day to day grime that we are constantly immersed in.  So few things that I read are really looking to real human beings as inspiration.

Fiction or non-fiction.

How much of the bullshit that is considered non-fiction out there is self-help or some kind of spiritual quick fix, or a memoirs of the last generation.  Don't get me wrong.  History is important to know.  And I do my best with that, but where are the other Junot Diaz's and the other Anthony Bourdain's.  Were are the real people writing about real things.

That is what I want to write.

If only because it is what I want to read.

File under Vice.
