Thomas Merton
I shudder to think about the fact that people are never going to come together under any kind of real ideal at this point in history. We have built up so much noise around us that we can't seem to find the moments, and the common spaces where we will be able decide on what is really for "The Greater Good."

I heard a man today on the radio talking about how he would never want to, "Pay for some deadbeat's health care." I can't imagine a world where this is something that is OK to say. I can't imagine a world where people are so callus to the hurt around them, that they can actually be angry at someone for being poor.
But what are the poor on TV. They are drug addicts and child molesters, and rednecks, and idiots. They aren't humans, they are stereotypes. And so people feel no need to help. There is no empathy to be had for the television poor. Instead people are driven to be selfish and to consume. To lust after a new car, or a hamburger, or the brilliant sex life a pharmaceutical can give you. I cringe to think that my kids are being raised in a world that just flat out doesn't care. I will not let my kids think that way.
I will break the propaganda mold for them. I will constantly teach them that we are all brothers and sisters. That the worst off and the best off deserve no different level of respect or care. We are all humans, no matter what the world tells us. We are all God's children, and seriously should you be fucking with the child of a God. I don't think so.
Hope you are awake too.
Hope you see that you are not alone.
